Bottelary Athletics Club hopes to double participation numbers following successful Human Rights Day turnout.
The Bottelary Athletics Club is calling on residents of Highbury, Kuils River and surrounds to shake off any autumn blues and join its community-fitness challenge, following an encouraging turnout at their previous event.
After 40 walkers and joggers of all ages participated in the club’s Human Rights Day 5 km event on 21 March, organisers are setting their sights on doubling those numbers for their final two events before the winter.

“It was incredible to see families out in full force,” said event organiser Rochelle Soggop. “From our youngest walker taking home a special prize to the lucky draw winners at the finish line, the energy was electric. We want to see that community spirit grow even bigger this Saturday.”

The pressure-free event, hosted at Excelsior Park, welcomes participants of all fitness levels, from seasoned local athletes to self-proclaimed “couch potatoes” looking for a fresh start.
Family-friendly fitness focus
The club emphasises that the challenge is designed around “family goals,” encouraging residents to bring children and grandparents for a morning of fitness and fun. Every finisher will receive a medal to commemorate their achievement.

The March event saw participants ranging from toddlers to grandparents take to the streets, creating what organisers describe as an “electric” atmosphere that perfectly captured the community spirit they hope to expand.
