A Brackenfell police sector manager proved himself to be an expert marksman at the South African Combat Rifle Championships held in Bloemfontein during August.

Competing against teams from the South African Police Service, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), civilians and teams from Lesotho and the Netherlands, WO Kobus Grobler was placed 23rd out of 56 police shots and 74th overall.

He also received a gold medal for one of the shooting exercises.

The competition took place over three days comprising of 147 shots using R4 and R5 rifles.

Grobler was awarded four gold, three silver and four bronze medals during the police prize-giving and was selected for the Western Province police A-team where he also received three bronze team medals.

In addition he came 13th at the SA Open sight shottist A and B Class.

Grobler, in 2014, joined WP Combat Rifle in Atlantis where he developed a passion for the sport.

“With the help of other shottists I improved year on year. It was my aim to reach the top 8 in the SA Open in 2022 but ended 13th. Although disappointed, I will try again. I am very proud of what I managed to achieve,” says Grobler.

“We are proud of his achievements and heartily congratulate him. We hope he will take part again next year and continue to hone his talent,” says police spokesperson Capt Erica Crous.
