Kuils River police charge two after shots fired in public

Local police have issued a warning to the public about an expected increase in motor-vehicle thefts and theft from vehicles during the festive season, urging the community to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Kuils River police have registered a case docket for discharging a firearm in public after an incident on Van Riebeeck Road last week.

Local police spokesperson WO Liesel Beukes said sector manager WO Andries Binedell followed-up on information received of a possible shooting close to the Engen petrol station around 18:45 on Tuesday 12 November.

“When he arrived on the scene he found four cartridge casings. He was informed an unknown taxi driver in a white Toyota Quantum had confronted community members who caught two apparent robbers. An altercation ensued, and the driver of the taxi discharged four shots from a handgun. The community members then threw stones at the taxi, damaging its rear window.”

Beukes said no arrests had been made.
