Residents in parts of Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain are advised of a scheduled power outage on Tuesday 12 August, to allow for five-yearly maintenance by the City of Cape Town.
According to a notice issued by the City and shared by Ward 76 councillor Avron Plaatjies, electricity supply will be interrupted from 09:00 to 16:00—weather permitting—in the areas of Melkbos, Lentegeur Baths, Melkbos Roads, and Marrydale Avenue.
The maintenance work involves servicing Tx (transformer) and RMU (Ring Main Unit) equipment, which are essential for safely managing electricity distribution in the area.
Treat as live
The City has urged residents to treat all electrical installations as live during the outage, as power may be restored at any time without warning.
Residents are also encouraged to switch off their geysers when the power goes out, and only turn them back on one hour after supply is restored to prevent tripping.
The notice adds that, aside from weather conditions, other unforeseen factors could delay the work. In the event of Stage 4 load-shedding or higher, the maintenance will be postponed and rescheduled.
The Ward 76 office will be closed on the day due to the outage. Plaatjies apologised for any inconvenience and thanked residents for their understanding.
