One person was killed and several others were seriously injured in a head-on collision on Bottelary Road in the vicinity of Bellevue Wine Estate near Stellenbosch on Friday morning.

According to information received by TygerBurger, the collision involved a bakkie carrying a group of security workers in the back and a Polo sedan.

Titanium Securitas medical personnel were among the first to respond to the crash, where they found multiple patients with serious injuries.

Emergency workers stabilised the injured at the scene before transporting them to hospital for further treatment. Despite their efforts, the driver of the Polo was declared dead on the scene.

Bottelary Road has long been flagged as one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the area, with a history of fatal crashes and repeated calls from residents for safety interventions.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
