With Youth Day just around the corner, two international choirs will visit our shores for multi-city tours in collaboration with leading South African choirs.

Crystal Children’s Choir brings US sound to SA

Starting on Tuesday 9 June, the internationally acclaimed Crystal Children’s Choir (CCC) makes a two-concert stop in Johannesburg before moving on to Cape Town for performances at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre with Lyrikos Community Youth Choir and Parklands College Choir, and at St. George’s Cathedral with the South African Youth Choir.

Based in San Francisco and directed by Karl Chang, this visit marks the ensemble’s first visit to the country. Known for its vibrant tone, cultural versatility, and commitment to musical excellence, the CCC will participate in a series of collaborative performances with leading South African youth and community choirs.

Minnesota Boychoir to mark Youth Day

The Minnesota Boychoir (MBC) tour, which begins on Monday 15 June, will include several school performances to mark Youth Day on Tuesday 16 June in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

The highlight is sure to be a performance with the Drakensberg Boys Choir at the Joburg Theatre. The Cape Town leg includes two school performances, at the NG Kerk Denneoord with the South Cape Children’s Choir and the Good Shepherd Anglican Church with Lyrikos Community Youth Choir. The final concert for this impressive ensemble will be at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow.

Led by executive and artistic director Mark Johnson, the Minnesota Boychoir will join forces with groups including the Meadowlands Chorale, the Drakensberg Boys Choir, the South Cape Children’s Choir, the Cape Town Children’s Choir and Lyrikos Community Youth Choir.

The tour will showcase a diverse programme blending American and South African choral traditions, highlighting cultural exchange and the unifying power of music. Founded more than 60 years ago, the Minnesota Boychoir has performed across five continents and is known for its artistic excellence and commitment to youth music education.
