Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party, coming to GrandWest this winter school holidays, with the show running from Friday 10 July to Sunday 19 July.
The production follows Mickey Mouse and his friends as they search for Tinker Bell, journeying through a series of dazzling Disney worlds along the way. Audiences can expect world-class ice skating, high-flying acrobatics and unexpected stunts, as the adventure takes them through the colourful spirit realm of Coco, the ocean voyage of Moana, the enchanted world of Beauty and the Beast and the icy landscapes of Frozen, Aladdin, Toy Story and The Little Mermaid also feature, and Stitch makes his Disney On Ice debut in South Africa, crashing the action with a few mischievous surprises.
Produced by Feld Entertainment and brought to local audiences by Showtime Management in association with FNB, the Cape Town season follows a run in Pretoria before heading to Durban later in July.
The magic behind the show
Behind the magic is a remarkable logistical operation. Fifteen fully packed trucks transport the show to each venue, with an ice surface measuring 35 metres long by 18 metres wide. The largest prop weighs 450kg and the sets reach up to 11 metres high.
Around 173 costumes are used throughout the show, with some changes completed in under 30 seconds. The lighting design incorporates 221 fixtures, 185 of which are moveable, while 12 projectors create the show’s immersive visual worlds. The sound system delivers 200 000 watts through 100 groups of speakers.

Tony Feldman of Showtime Management says anticipation for the production has been building since the dates were confirmed. “We’ve been looking forward to opening this show since we confirmed these runs last year and we know fans can’t wait to join Mickey Mouse and his friends on their search for Tinker Bell. Partnering with FNB helps us bring all the magic and incredible special effects to the show.”
