The Mitchells Plain United Residents Association (Mura) is inviting nominations for its 2026 Community Service Awards, which will recognise individuals who go the extra mile in serving the Mitchells Plain community.

Mura is an umbrella residents’ organisation established in 2016 and formally launched on 6 May 2017. It aims to unite the residents of Mitchells Plain and work towards an improved quality of life. The organisation is apolitical and works to improve service delivery by government, non-government and the business sector. It endeavours to form partnerships with all structures that share its objectives, whether with government, the private sector or individuals.

Mura has established road safety and community safety sectors. In road safety, it agitates for the implementation and maintenance of road infrastructure and other measures that enhance road safety. The organisation has liaised with Prasa for the reopening of railway services and with the city around improved road infrastructure.

Awards and nominations

One of Mura’s key objectives is to develop community cohesion and restore community pride. The organisation is planning its 2nd Community Service Awards Ceremony for Friday 30 October to recognise and acknowledge individuals who go the extra mile in serving the community. The event also hopes to promote positive role models and service excellence.

Mura invites nominations for individuals in good standing in the Mitchells Plain area to be considered for the awards. Nominations open on Monday 17 August and close on Friday 25 September. No late entries will be considered.

Selection process

The selection panel will consist of three independent community leaders together with a member of the media. Nominations will be assessed in accordance with the criteria below, and the panel’s decision is final.

Successful nominees will be invited to a gala dinner, a black tie event, on Friday 30 October at Westend Primary School in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain to receive their awards.

Selection criteria

Nominees must:

• Be active in the Mitchells Plain community for at least three years;
• Have enhanced the quality of life and made a positive impact in the lives of the people of Mitchells Plain;
• Have promoted unity, communication, interaction and cooperation within the community;
• Enjoy a level of credibility and selflessly serve the community;
• Have gone beyond the call of duty in serving the community.

Individuals can be nominated in the following categories: arts and culture, business, civic, education, health, media, older persons, religious, safety and security, sports, welfare and youth.
