Man arrested after drug haul in Delft

A 45-year-old suspect has been arrested for dealing in drugs after a multi-agency law enforcement operation uncovered narcotics valued at an estimated R1,5 million at a residential address in Delft on Tuesday 9 June, the Hawks said this week.

Joint operation nets major drugs haul

The arrest was the result of a joint operation by the Hawks‘ Crime Against the State unit, the South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau, the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit, the K9 Unit, and the Local Criminal Record Centre.

Acting on information about illegal activities at the premises, the team searched the property in the presence of the suspect. In one of the rooms, a brown crossbody bag was discovered containing 7 000 Mandrax tablets, the Hawks said. Cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as tik, were also uncovered during a further search of the premises.

Suspect due in court

The suspect is expected to make his first appearance at the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 11 June.
