The Bothasig Baseball Club has achieved a remarkable milestone, with more than 50 of its members selected to represent the Western Cape at the 2026 South African Baseball Union’s National Baseball Championship, hosted this year by the Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club in Gauteng.

The championship takes place from Friday 3 April to Monday 6 April.

The tournament brings together approximately 200 of Cape Town’s finest baseball talent — and an impressive one in four of those players calls Bothasig home. This extraordinary representation is a testament to the dedication, skill, and hard work that the club’s players and coaches have poured into the sport, the club said in a statement.

For a single club to contribute such a significant proportion of a provincial squad is no small feat, and it speaks volumes about the standard of baseball being developed within the Bothasig community. The club’s commitment to growing the game at grassroots level is clearly bearing fruit at the highest levels of national competition, the statement reads.

The championship is the premier stage for club baseball in South Africa, and the Bothasig contingent will be looking to make their mark, the club said. With so many familiar faces in the Western Cape squad, the club will no doubt be cheering loudly as their members fly the flag for the province.

Bothasig Baseball Club is over 50 years old and the largest number of South African and provincial-capped players.

“We wish our players the very best of luck,” the statement concludes.
