For Mandela Day the prefects at Koos Sadie Primary School decided to do a blanket drive. “Learners and educators were asked to donate blankets,” says O’Ryan Julius, departmental head at Koos Sadie Primary.
“We started this initiative because we realise that there are so many less fortunate people in our communities and many of them were affected by the recent floods and rains that we experienced in Cape Town, says Julius. “This was us trying to do our part in assisting them.”
On Thursday 18 July the group handed over approximately 300 blankets to Oostenberg Meals on Wheels. “The manager there is Yolanda Blockman, who will facilitate the distribution of the blankets in the community,” says Julius.
According to Julius, the educators who worked alongside the prefects to guide them were Luzel Burger, Sumarie Brand, Xander Kuys, and himself.
The school would like to thank all the learners and parents who generously donated the blankets.
