The Junior Portrait Award, hosted by Rust-en-Vrede Gallery in Durbanville, is open to young artists aged 16 to 18 years from all over South Africa.
This competition helps young artists develop their portraiture skills and gives them the chance to exhibit their work in a professional gallery setting.
The competition returns this year for its second national edition, continuing its mission to celebrate and support emerging talent.
Prepare young artists
The initiative also aims to prepare and inspire participants to one day enter the prestigious National Portrait Award, one of South Africa’s leading portrait competitions.
Entries are free and must be submitted online via the Rust-en-Vrede Gallery website between 21 to 28 April.
The first prize is art vouchers to the value of R5 000, the second prize is art vouchers worth R3 000, and the third prize is valued at R2 000.
