The Barracuda Aquarama Swimming Club in Durbanville delivered an outstanding performance at the SA Level 2 Regional Age Group Championships 2026 earlier this month in Oudtshoorn, showcasing the talent and determination of its swimmers.
A team of 18 swimmers of the club, which trains at Durbanville Preparatory School, represented the club from 6 to 8 March and achieved remarkable results against strong competition from 42 participating clubs.
Barracuda Aquarama secured an impressive sixth overall position — a testament to the depth and quality within the squad, according to head coach Coenie van Graan.
The swimmers brought home a total of 33 medals — consisting of seven gold, 10 silver, and 15 bronze medals.
Incredible 143 personal best times
“In addition to their podium finishes, the team demonstrated exceptional progress in the pool, recording an incredible 143 personal best times over the course of the competition,” van Graan says.
He praised the swimmers for their commitment, discipline and team spirit.
“It highlights the significant improvement and consistency shown throughout the event. This strong showing reinforces Barracuda Aquarama’s growing reputation as a competitive force in regional swimming, with a bright future ahead for its developing swimmers,” he concludes.
