The Friends of Durbanville Library will present their first book sale of the year this coming weekend at Durbanville Library.
The book sale in the library hall will be held on Friday 30 January from 09:00 to 16:00 and on Saturday 31 January from 09:00 to 11:30.
New books
All funds raised will be used mostly to buy new books.
“The organisation recently spend about R5 000 on new children’s books. This section now really offers a wide variety,” says Joy Koekemoer, a committee member of Friends of Durbanville Library.
“‘We really want to create a love for reading with our children,” she says.
Holiday programme
“We also offer holiday programmes for children at the library. We have a puppet house and we present shows — not only at the library, but also taken to nursing and primary schools by the librarian in the children’s section,”she adds.
During the past school holidays the children were entertained on craft workshops, as well as a dog show by the K9 Unit.
“A total of 49 children attended the dog show, during which they have also been educated about drugs,” Koekemoer says.
Huge donations of new books
Huge donations of new books was recently received — including a lot of children’s books, of which some at only R5 each.
“Not all books donated are sold. If we do not have a book on the shelf and it is in good condition, it often becomes part of our collection of books,” she says.
The library also often receive donations of popular, often recently published books, from book clubs.
Koekemoer invites book lovers to visit the book sale “and be pleasantly surprised at the variety, condition and good prices”.
Also on sale will be jigsaw puzzles (come early).
Donations of books are always welcomed.
