The national energy supplier, Eskom, said its recovery teams remain on the ground across the Western Cape, continuing restoration work following severe storms that have impacted large parts of the province since last week.
Battling hazardous conditions
Technicians have been working under extremely difficult and often hazardous conditions, including persistent rainfall, strong winds, flooding and challenging terrain, Eskom said on Tuesday. Despite these circumstances, it said, teams remained fully committed and are doing everything possible to safely and systematically restore electricity supply to affected customers.
Restoration in progress
While significant progress had been made some areas remain without power due to the extent of the damage and limited accessibility. Eskom said it continued to prioritise repairs based on network dependencies and safety considerations, with all available resources deployed to expedite the restoration process.
Tribute to staff and stakeholders
The energy supplier also expressed its sincere appreciation to its employees and contractors for their dedication, resilience and professionalism under pressure, noting their efforts were instrumental in the restoration of a smooth energy supply wherever it was needed.
It also thanked customers for their continued patience and understanding. Appreciation has further been extended to Provincial Disaster Management, municipal counterparts, community leaders, farmers and local stakeholders who had assisted teams on the ground, including facilitating access to affected infrastructure and supporting restoration efforts.
Eskom said it remained committed to restoring supply as quickly and safely as possible and would continue to provide updates as work progresses.
