Durbanville residents have only days left to comment on plans to rezone an Oxford Street property from residential to business use.
The City of Cape Town is considering a land-use application for Erf 865 at 12 Oxford Street, Durbanville, with the public participation period closing on 5 October.
The application proposes rezoning the property from Single Residential Zone 1 to General Business Zone 1.
It also seeks the removal of restrictive title deed conditions, amendments to township conditions and approval of a site development plan.
The application was lodged by Jacobus Fourie Olivier on behalf of Edge Telecommunications (Pty) Ltd.
What the proposed rezoning would allow
If approved, the rezoning would allow the property to be used under a broader business zoning instead of its current residential classification.
The application also includes a departure relating to parking within 10 metres of the property boundary.
The City has not yet approved the proposal. Residents still have an opportunity to submit objections or comments.
Interested and affected parties must include the application reference number, their contact details and the reasons for their objection or the comments they wish to submit.
The application reference is 1500165164.
More development plans on the table
The Oxford Street application is not the only development proposal currently open for comment in Durbanville.
A separate application at 18 Langeberg Road proposes subdividing the site into 21 General Residential portions, together with private open space for a road.
That proposal also includes rezoning, a site development plan and a proposed new road to be called Ashford Road.
Public comment on that application closes on 15 October.
Several land-use applications are currently under consideration in Durbanville as development pressure continues across the northern suburbs.
For residents, the applications offer an opportunity to raise concerns around land use, traffic, parking and the impact of new developments before decisions are made on the applications.
