The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi, has issued a stern warning to police officers engaged in corrupt activities, following an incident in which a police constable was arrested for corruption on Monday, 31 August, at the Delft police station.

Missing

According to Sergeant Wesley Twigg, police spokesperson, the arrest came after officers from the Anti-Corruption Unit followed up on information about a case docket that went missing. “A thorough investigation into the case was conducted and the member was identified and arrested,” said Twigg.

Delft police station is fifth on the national list of murder cases, as announced recently by the national police commissioner.

The ongoing Madlanga Commission, investigating corruption in the criminal justice system, has shone the spotlight on corrupt activities reaching the highest offices in the country. Since last week Dr Godfrey Lebeya, the former national head of the Directorate of Priority Crime, was grilled by commissioners on alleged involvement in corrupt activities.
