The De Grendel Lions Club said this week it was pleasantly surprised to learn it was to receive the prestigious Lions Club Excellence Award.
On being honoured for its work in 2024-’25 by Lions Club International, the club’s spokesperson, Jacques Mostert, explained: “The award acknowledges the dedication and legacy of service within individual clubs. It recognises clubs for outstanding service, membership growth, and operational leadership.”
The award was handed to De Grendel at a recent Lions Zone 9 meeting by Lions District 410W district governor Bevil Lakay.
He said he was very proud the club had received it, as he knew the impact all its activities and projects have. Lakay said he always enjoys visiting De Grendel Lions, where he is always made to feel at home by the club members.
Its president, Glenda Hon, thanked Lakay for conveying the award.
“She also thanked the previous district governor, Jose Braga Borges, for nominating the club,” Mostert said. “Glenda indicated she was humbled, for the award is a testament to all the hard work by club members and the great community De Grendel serves.”
