Following a light aircraft accident in Kraaifontein this morning, the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) stated that a preliminary report about the circumstances around the incident will be issued within 30 days.
Earlier, TygerBurger reported the aircraft, carrying two pilots aged 25 and 31, executed an emergency landing behind the Waste Management Plant off Botfonein Road at about 11:20.
SACAA spokesperson Sisa Majola, confirmed that the Piper Cherokee PA28A aircraft took off from Cape Town International Airport, adding the two occupants suffered serious injuries, while the aircraft sustained substantial damage.
“The accident and incident investigations division (AIID) has investigators on-site to start the process of evidence collection and to gather more information that will assist in defining the size and scope of the investigation,” says Majola.
An employee from the Cape Town Flying Club told TygerBurger that the aircraft was part of their fleet, which is listed on their website, but could not provide any more comment at this stage.
