Child Protection Week: Badisa Tygerberg takes awareness campaign to Ravensmead, Uitsig and Parow

To commemorate Child Protection Week this year, Badisa Tygerberg visited several communities where awareness was raised about child protection and children’s rights.

Child Protection Week commenced on Friday 29 May and concludes today (Friday 5 June).

Charmaine Germishuys, spokesperson, says as part of their Child Protection Week awareness campaign, Badisa Tygerberg engaged with the communities they serve through a series of awareness walks. On Monday they visited Ravensmead, on Wednesday Uitsig and today they conducted their walk in Parow.

“During these engagements, community members were informed about the importance of child protection, children’s rights and the procedures for reporting cases of child abuse and neglect. Resource pamphlets containing the contact details of our office and other relevant service providers were distributed to ensure community members know where to access support and assistance when needed,” Germishuys said.

This year’s Child Protection Week theme is “Give One Hour for Child Protection”.

“The campaign encourages individuals and communities to dedicate one meaningful hour to ensuring that children are seen, valued, protected and positively engaged in safe environments.”

The staff of Badisa was also joined by the local police during their walk.

In support of this initiative, the staff of Badisa Tygerberg have partnered with Tygersig Primary School to host a fun-filled Sports Day for the Grade 5 learners today (Friday 5 June) from 10:00 to 12:00.

“The programme consisted of six activity stations, allowing every learner the opportunity to participate in each activity. Learners rotated through the stations in groups, ensuring an inclusive and engaging experience for all.

“To further enhance the atmosphere, an MC and music kept the energy high and contributed to a memorable and enjoyable Child Protection Week celebration,” Germishuys said.
