The Carel du Toit Centre, a specialised centre that helps children who are deaf learn to listen and speak, is proud to announce that four of its therapists represented the centre and South Africa at the prestigious AG Bell Global Listening and Spoken Language Symposium 2026.
The event was held from Thursday 4 June to Saturday 6 June in Washington DC, USA.
The team shared their expertise with an international audience of hearing healthcare professionals dedicated to advancing listening and spoken language outcomes for children with hearing loss.
Their presentations addressed a range of important topics, including:
- Supporting equitable paediatric hearing care throughout Africa;
- Reading between the lines to uncover hidden clinical insights during the hearing test process;
- Strengthening listening foundations through sensory-informed approaches;
- Engaging policymakers through the power of speech and advocacy.
- Highlighting the work being undertaken in South Africa in the listening and spoken language sector.
“We are grateful for experiences like these, which allow us to learn, share insights and build stronger connections with our international colleagues,” says Sarah Lange, head of audiology at Carel du Toit Centre.
