Bellville police are seeking committed volunteers to join a Youth Crime Prevention Desk focused on mentoring and guiding young people away from crime and social challenges.
The community outreach initiative, based at Bellville Police Station in Voortrekker Road, aims to address youth crime through awareness campaigns, school and community outreach programmes and mentorship initiatives. Volunteers will work to steer young people away from gangsterism, substance abuse, violence and other social challenges.
No formal qualifications are required, making the opportunity accessible to anyone with a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of young people and within the broader community.
Sgt Charles Neelse, social crime prevention coordinator at Bellville Police Station, said all necessary guidance would be provided to successful applicants. “We are looking for individuals who are dedicated, approachable and willing to work with young people to create safer communities,” he said.
Working with the community
Volunteers will work alongside the community policing forum, schools, local organisations and various community stakeholders involved in youth development and crime prevention. The programme will also include community awareness events and educational campaigns aimed at addressing the root causes of youth crime.
The Youth Crime Prevention Desk offers volunteers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in community engagement, leadership and youth mentorship, while contributing meaningfully to public safety and social development.
How to apply
Interested volunteers should submit a short motivation explaining why they would like to join the programme, along with details of any previous community or youth-related involvement. Prior experience is not essential.
Applications can be submitted by e-mailing bellvillecomm@saps.gov.za, or by contacting Sgt Charles Neelse via WhatsApp on 082 301 7661 or Davian ver Neel (chairperson) on 076 387 5810.
