Two police officers were gunned down during the early hours of this morning (26 November.

According to a report from Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha, a Mitchell’s Plain police constable who was off duty was shot and killed in an attempted hijacking in Bloekombos, Kraaifontein.

Ramovha says the officer (33) was dropping off a relative at 01:00, when he was approached by three unknown men who tried to rob and hijack him. The officer was shot and died as a result of his injuries.

In the second incident on today, a constable from Athlone Police Station was gunned down in Owen Madikane Street, Delft.

Ramovha says the officer was found lying in the street with a bullet wound to his shoulder.

“He was admitted to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The circumstances surrounding the matter are still under investigation and no one has been arrested as yet and the motive is still to be established.”
