During Child Protection Week from 29 May to 4 June, Badisa Tygerberg took the opportunity to live its vision by raising awareness about the rights and responsibilities of children.

The children at Vorentoe Primary School, Parow North Primary School, Uitsig Primary and Eureka Primary School all had the opportunity to stand up for their rights and raised their voices against abuse and neglect.

About 300 children attended the Child Protection Week Programme that Badisa Tygerberg held.

According to Ania Kromhout, a social worker at Badisa, each child received a booklet about their rights and responsibilities.

“The social workers also held discussions about the rights and responsibilities of children and informed the children where and to whom to report abuse and neglect. A banner was made for each school where the learners were given the opportunity to put on their painted hand print as a symbol against the violation of children’s rights,” says Kromhout.

Child Protection Week is one of the stepping stones to raise awareness of the rights and responsibilities of children, but Badisa Tygerberg continues to be the voice of the most vulnerable children and families.

“This organisation works to empower children to stand up for their rights so that they are able to develop into responsible adults who will be able to make a positive contribution to their communities in future. There is no excuse – speak out against child abuse and support Badisa Tygerberg in protecting our vulnerable children, parents and families,” says Kromhout.
