There was plenty of action (and informative talks) at a Youth Day event hosted by the Highbury United Football Club at the Sarepta sports grounds last Thursday.

Sgt Nicky Willemse of Kuils River police had the youngster’s attention with a slideshow and talk on challenges the youth might face – drugs, domestic violence, human trafficking and the dangers of social media “games” came under the loop. Sgt Pieter du Toit shared some of his experience dealing with gangsterism. He touched on the way young boys are lured into gangs and the ultimate bleak outlook of this lifestyle. Playing sport, such as soccer, is a much better choice, Du Toit said.

The four-legged colleagues from Metro Police who showed off their skill as well as the officers of the local fire brigade were crowd pleasers. After all the talks and demo’s there were various activities to get rid of all the energy before lunch was enjoyed.
