Two adjacent stores as well as the Shoprite Usave store in Sarepta were damaged in the fire which broke out in the area on Friday morning.

As reported by TygerBurger, residents in the area said it took a while until fire services were on scene.

Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for City of Cape Town Fire Service, said the City’s Fire and Rescue Service responded at 07:05 to a building alight in Mimosa Close, Sarepta.

“The first arriving officer from Kuils River Fire Station confirmed a building well alight and called upon more resources to assist. We had crews from Kuils River, Belhar, Epping, Brackenfell, Bellville and Goodwood on scene with approximately 40 firefighters. Crews were relieved after 09:00 on scene by fresh crews that came on duty.”

Carelse added that the Cash & Carry store and the adjacent Cell Shop were severely affected by the fire, but the Usave sustained partial damages. The stores are all in the same building.

No injuries were reported and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

The fire was extinguished just before 13:00, Carelse said.

The owner of Cash & Carry (who asked not to be named) told TygerBurger on scene the damage to the store is extensive.
