Parklands College lived up to its expectations when it hosted 5FM who broadcast live from the school on Friday 28 July.

Dan Corder, host of 5FM’s 5 Breakfast, said he had an amazing time at Parklands College.

“It is such a beautiful school, so jaw-dropping, the grounds, and the facilities, everything.”

Corder added that they have so much to impress the public, like the marimba band played, and their band played.

“It was phenomenal,” Corder said.

Corder explained how the head girl of the school, Chantel Myburgh, was telling them about how she was part of the netball team volunteers from high schools across Cape Town.

They had to play netball in front of netball World Cup camera teams on Thursday 27 July “so that camera teams could practise for the World Cup which started”.

Giving a voice to the youth

“The point of this and the reason this is such a beloved campaign for me, is that 5FM is the national youth station and so our specific job that we love to do is to give voice to the voices of young people.

“It is to give them a platform, the megaphone, the radio microphone so that they can express themselves and their feelings, thoughts, talents, and energies on the country they are the future of,” Corder explained.

He said that is why he loves the show so much.

Corder said they visit schools that is doing an extraordinary job to help young people to become their full true best selves.

“We ended up at Parklands College because we ran a campaign where any school could nominate themselves in the prior. Parklands submitted an epic application and we just absolutely loved everything they said, and they have lived up to the expectations,” Corder said.

25th anniversary

Sylvia Steyn, principal of Parklands College, said it was a perfect way to celebrate their 25th anniversary on the West Coast.

The learners got into the spirit from early morning and the celebrations continued throughout the day.

“The presenters were kind and made everyone who sat down for an interview feel relaxed and supported. We loved the opportunity to display our school,” Steyn said.

“We had more volunteers to be interviewed than we could accommodate!

“Our learners are proud of the College and enjoyed talking about their favourite aspects of being a learner at Parklands College. It was a great experience and we are most proud of everyone who participated,” Steyn concluded.
