Table View police have registered an attempted murder case following a shooting incident last week (Friday 3 April) at approximately 17:00 in Morningford Road.
According to police, a man was shot and wounded after intervening in an altercation between a group of foreign national men. The circumstances surrounding the shooting were still under investigation, and no arrests had been made.
Parklands gunfire sparks panic
The violent confrontation, reportedly triggered by a dispute over money sharing among a group of Nigerian nationals, caused panic in Parklands. Several gunshots were heard near the busy Morningfield Spar during peak hours, sending shoppers and residents scrambling for safety.
Witnesses reported seeing a red Range Rover and a silver Audi speed away from the scene shortly after the shooting.
Tensions linked to ongoing disputes
According to witnesses, tensions had been building over the distribution of drug money within the group. The argument quickly escalated, and voices and tempers flared before gunfire broke out.
The intended target, believed to be part of the same circle, managed to escape unharmed as the situation spiralled out of control.
Authorities believe the incident is connected to ongoing disputes within informal networks, where disagreements over drug money distribution had increasingly led to violent incidents.
These conflicts have raised serious concerns about safety in the Milnerton and Parklands areas, particularly in public spaces where bystanders could be at risk.
According to reports, police are reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding businesses to identify those involved and piece together the sequence of events leading to the shooting.
Local councillor responds
Ward councillor Jonathan Mills said he was “deeply shocked by the video circulating on social media” and acknowledged the fear it had caused among residents. “SAPS are aware of the incident and are actively investigating, and I urge the community to allow them to do their work,” he said, adding that he had requested through the CPF that further information be shared with residents as soon as possible.
Mills said the incident “does not exist in isolation”, pointing to ongoing concerns around crime in the area. “We have consistently called for greater intervention by both SAPS and Home Affairs, but Table View SAPS can only work with the resources they have,” he said. “The closure of the satellite office on Parklands Main Road and the withdrawal of resources have real consequences for our safety.”
