The ongoing fight against the distribution and dealing in
drugs yielded positive results this past weekend when police officers attached
to Operation Restore received information that led to the seizure of a
significant amount of drugs in Voortrekker Road, Goodwood.
On Sunday 21 January, the members followed-up on information
about a vehicle from which drugs were being sold. They then spotted it and
monitored how transactions took place.
According to the provincial police spokesperson Lt Col
Malcolm Pojie, the members immediately approached the vehicle and witnessed the
driver attempting to hide something under the seat when he saw the police
officers. “A search ensued and a batch of drugs was discovered in the vehicle,
consisting of Mandrax tablets, ecstasy tablets and a substantial quantity of
cocaine,” he related.
During the extensive search the members also found an
undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be proceeds of drug dealing, for which
a 41-year-old male was arrested and charged.
According to Captain Waynne Theunis, communications officer
at Goodwood police, the suspect was detained at Goodwood and appeared in the
Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 23 January on a charge of possession of
drugs.
