Three suspects who allegedly robbed a Takealot delivery driver in Kuils River on Tuesday (3 September) ran into a lot of trouble soon afterwards.

Kuils River police spokesperson WO Liesel Beukes said the station’s Crime Prevention Unit was busy patrolling Nooiensfontein Road, around 15:30, when the officers spotted a white Volkswagen Polo driving recklessly and jumping a red light at the Nooiensfontein and Grove Street intersection.

The police pursued the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop.Beukes said the police eventually managed to stop the Polo in Putter Street, Silwood Heights in Eerste River, near an open field where the occupants jumped out and ran into a house.

“The officers chased on foot and apprehended three suspects inside the house. One had an imitation firearm.” When the officers searched the Polo they found a Hyundai vehicle’s key inside. A new 32-inch monitor, a computer keyboard, and a microwave, all still sealed in packaging, were found in the boot.

Beukes said when the vehicles’ number plates were checked there were four, two number plates on top of each other, in the front and rear. The investigation later revealed the stolen goods were taken from a Takealot delivery driver in a Hyundai vehicle, who was robbed by firearm around 15:00 on Tuesday while doing deliveries in Heron Street, Danarand.

The three suspects, two 22-year-olds and a 19-year-old positively linked to the robbery, were arrested and detained at Kuils River Police Station. They appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 5 September
