Learners at Bet-el School of Skills in Kuils River were treated to a special Youth Day celebration themed “You are enough”, organised by the women of non-profit company Coin Care last Wednesday (10 June).
The event followed on two workshops about vision boards and journaling that Coin Care hosted at the school in April, as part of their ongoing commitment to uplift and empower young people in the community.

Chair Cheryl Johnson summed up the heart of the initiative: “Every young person has value, purpose and the ability to make a difference. Today we celebrate your unique talents and encourage you to believe in yourself and your future.”
Income-generating skills
Local entrepreneurs were invited to share their success stories and inspire the learners through practical demonstrations of income-generating skills. Guest speakers included Adele Alexander, who spoke about printing; beautician Lauren George; Fred Williams, who spoke about woodwork; and Nellene Fairbairn, who spoke about gardening.

The talks were followed by the opportunity for some hands-on experience, with learners choosing which activity interested them most before joining one of the four presenters to participate.
