Drugs with a street value of R3 million were seized from a bed and breakfast in Kuils River in an early morning raid on Monday 15 June, resulting in the arrest of a 29-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man.
Early morning raid
Cpt Frederick van Wyk, provincial police spokesperson, said at approximately 04:30, police received information about drug activity at a bed and breakfast in the Langverwacht area of Kuils River.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, officers of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team proceeded to the identified address, where they found a man fitting the description of the suspect, along with a woman, in the room. A white VW Polo was parked in front of their room.
Drugs found in vehicle
Peering through the vehicle’s window, the officers spotted a large black bag on the back seat. The suspect was asked to unlock the car, and a search was conducted, during which a large amount of mandrax tablets was found. Further inspection of the vehicle revealed additional bags containing more mandrax tablets and crystal meth.

In total, 51 bags of mandrax tablets and five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of R3 000 000, were confiscated and handed in as exhibits. Cash amounting to R17 000, believed to be the proceeds of crime, was also seized.

Both suspects were arrested on charges of possession of and dealing in drugs.
