Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Brand Protectors conducted a search-and-seizure operation in the Bellville CBD on Tuesday 9 June, targeting shops suspected of selling counterfeit goods.
During the operation, officers confiscated a wide range of counterfeit clothing and illicit goods, including branded clothing, running shoes and sneakers. The seized items carry an estimated value of R98 000 000.

Protecting consumers and legitimate businesses
The operation forms part of broader efforts to combat the counterfeit and illicit goods trade in the Western Cape and to protect consumers and legitimate businesses affected by such trade.
The circumstances surrounding the case are under investigation. Those responsible for the illicit trade are being pursued, while others are currently being questioned. The seizure has been described as a significant blow to the illegal trade in counterfeit goods.
