The Federation of Dance, Drill, Baton and Majorette Western Cape successfully hosted its 4th Regional Competition on Saturday at JG Meiring High School in Goodwood, bringing some of the province’s most talented and dedicated dance-and-drill sportspeople together.
Young and old compete
The one-day competition featured over 14 teams competing across various categories, Chantal Lombard, a coach, pointed out, “and these included Non–Prop, Open Dance, Baton and Flag, Mixed Formations and the prestigious Large Drill Team division. Athletes aged 5 to 35 years participated, highlighting both grassroots development and elite performance in the sport, and it was hosted by President High School.”

With teams spread across Cape Town and surrounding areas the event provided a vital platform to showcase discipline, teamwork and athletic excellence, giving families and supporters the opportunity to experience the energy and passion of competitive dance-and-drill sport. “Well done to President High for winning the overall Large Drill category for high schools and False Bay Primary School for winning the overall Large Drill category in the primary-school section,” Lombard said.
Upcoming event
She said building on the success of the recent regional competition the federation continued an exciting and busy competitive season, with the next Regional Competition scheduled for 6 June, followed by the Provincial Championships on 27 June and 25 July. Afterwards, attention turns to the highly anticipated National Championship, set to take place from 24 September to 1 October at Huguenot High School in Wellington.
This is expected to attract approximately 1 000 athletes from 40-plus teams representing all nine provinces, Lombard said, making it one of the largest and most significant events on the national sporting calendar.
She said the championship will provide an important opportunity for athletes to compete at the highest level while promoting unity, youth development and sport excellence across South Africa.
