Encouraging young people to visualise their goals, aspirations and career paths, in line with their talents
The women from non-profit company Coin Care in Kuils River brought inspiration and practical life skills to learners at Bet-el School of Skills through two workshops held at the school, on Tuesday 14 April and Tuesday 21 April.
During the first session, learners were taught how to create their very own vision board. This serves as a visual tool to clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on life goals and aspirations.

The second session focused on creating a gratitude journal to encourage positive thinking and personal growth.
Guidance
Coin Care brings a group of women together every Tuesday. The initiative with the learners of Bet-el forms part of their ongoing work to uplift and empower young people in the community, explained Cheryl Johnson, chair of Coin Care.
“We initially hosted our vision board and gratitude journal sessions with small start-up businesses and our Coin ladies, and through that we realised that the youth were also really in need of this kind of guidance.
“Many young people are challenged when it comes to making decisions about their career paths, which is why we’ve extended these workshops to them — to help bring clarity, direction, and confidence. As the Bible says, people perish due to a lack of knowledge, and to ‘write the vision down and run with it’.”
Mindset of appreciation
Johnson explained that a gratitude journal encourages participants to say thank you for even the smallest things — “whether it’s connected to their vision or simply gratitude for life itself. It’s about building a mindset of appreciation and hope. Our message throughout is: ‘You are enough with your God-given talents’.”

The learners enjoyed the practical sessions with the women from Coin Care and were even treated to homemade cupcakes. They also received pencil bags made by the crafty women.
