A 23-year-old man appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court this week on charges of contravening the Firearms Control Act.
This follows his arrest on Friday 3 April by Western Cape police members attached to Operation Lockdown. The members were conducting crime prevention operations in the Bishop Lavis policing precinct, when they received information about a firearm at a house in Holland Street, Goodwood.
According to police spokesperson, Sgt Wesley Twigg, the members went to the property and searched the house when they discovered a 357 revolver with six rounds of ammunition in a bedroom. The suspect could not produce a licence for the firearm, and was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, Twigg says.
The suspect appeared in court on Tuesday 7 April.
