Kuils River-based non-profit organisation Project 021 captivated audiences with three performances of its latest production, Shine, at the Sarepta Community Hall last week.

The organisation, which uses performing arts to develop and empower young people in the community, presented a thought-provoking play that tackles the serious issue of gender-based violence and its impact on children who witness it first-hand.

Written by Project 021’s founder and director David Cornelson, Shine was brought to life by a talented and energetic cast of local performers.

Dual purpose

The production served a dual purpose, addressing a critical social issue while providing a platform to showcase the wealth of talent within the community.

Ward councillor Wouter de Vos, who attended the opening night, commended Cornelson and the talented cast.

“It is an amazing production and it really hits home with a message about GBV, but it also shows that there is hope; you don’t have to be stuck in that rut.

“I’m really glad I came to watch; it’s really worthwhile. I highly recommend it.”
