Kuils River Library celebrated South African Library Week (SALW), which ran from 16 to 22 March, with various outreach activities and events.

This year’s theme was “Reclaiming Knowledge, Empowering Futures,” focused on digital inclusion, preserving indigenous knowledge, and fostering lifelong learning.

Library Week highlights libraries as essential democratic spaces for information access and offers patrons the chance to return outstanding library items without fines.

Membership drive

Kuils River Library began the week with a membership drive at Shoprite Shopping Centre, where staff members engaged with the public.

The library also hosted its quarterly homeless outreach in partnership with Sarepta and Kuils River clinics.

During the event, clinic staff presented health awareness talks, and community members who attended were treated to a warm cup of soup and bread. Guests also had the opportunity to choose from donated clothing. Other events included a book talk and poetry reading, as well as reading sessions for children.

Library staff remind patrons that every library visit is a step toward discovering something new.
