The minibus-taxi after the fire was extinguished in Parow on Friday 23 January.

Two vehicle-related incidents were reported at the start of the weekend in Parow and Goodwood, respectively. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in either of them.

Emergency personnel responded to a taxi on fire in Hofmeyer Street, Parow on Friday 23 January, and the same day a vehicle overturned and landed on its roof at the Kimberley and Dingle Street intersection in Townsend Estate, Goodwood.

Responding to the first incident, Jermaine Carelse, the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the service was notified around 12:55 about the vehicle alight in Parow. Crews from Bellville were on scene and by 13:10 the fire was extinguished, he said. No injuries were reported and it was suspected the fire had originated in the engine compartment of the taxi, Carelse added.

Very little information was available on the vehicle, a white bakkie, that had overturned in Goodwood.

“All we know at this stage is there were two vehicles involved, with one injury but nothing serious,” said Abdallah Sydney, Goodwood Community Policing Forum (CPF) chair.

He said roadworks were currently taking place in the area.

“The one vehicle apparently came down a one-way [in the opposite direction] and drove into another vehicle in Dingle Street, without stopping. The roads are busy being resurfaced so there were no road markings.”
