Swift action by Western Cape public order police (POP) led to the arrest of two suspects in separate operations in Kraaifontein on Friday.
Officers seized unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and a quantity of drugs. During a search operation at a premises in Nyama Street, Wallacedene on Friday afternoon, the unit seized a 9mm pistol without a serial number, 77 rounds of ammunition, 20 Mandrax tablets and 108 small packets containing crystal meth.
They arrested a 26-year-old man for the possession of a prohibited firearm, ammunition and the possession of drugs.
In another intervention, police officers arrested a 17-year-old man for the possession of a .22 pistol. The officers followed up information about a person who is in possession of a firearm. The suspect fitting the description was apprehended and the firearm confiscated.
He faces a charge of illegal possession of a firearm. Once charged the suspects will make their respective court appearances in Blue Downs.
