AZ Berman Drive will get a lane shift in August due to MyCiti infrastructure upgrades.
The City has announced a temporary lane 18 shift on AZ Berman Drive for the next phase of the MyCiti infrastructure upgrades. The changes will take effect on 18 August and continue until mid next year, depending on weather conditions and other unforeseen delays. The city will implement significant traffic adjustments between Katjiepiering Street and Kerrem Street, near the BP Garage.
Southbound traffic will be shifted to the newly completed northbound lane (towards Cape Town).
Vehicles will travel in both directions using only one lane in each direction.
Cones and road markings will guide motorists through the narrowed work zone.
Pedestrian access will remain open, with a 1,2m fence separating the walkway from the construction area.
Updated Intersection Access: Petunia Street and Morgenster Road will reopen at their intersections with AZ Berman Drive.
Kerrem Street will remain partially closed. Traffic from Promenade Mall’s three outbound lanes will be halted; the two inbound lanes will be used for two-way traffic.
Charlie Street will remain partially closed, with only two lanes available; one in, one out.
Westpoort Drive (West) and Highlands Drive (East) are scheduled for closure once Morgenster reopens.
Despite the disruptions, all homes, businesses, and public facilities with City-approved access will remain reachable. The City is urging motorists to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
