BLOEMFONTEIN – Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a 19-year-old man who was stabbed to death on Christmas Day in what police describe as a gang-related attack.

The victim was standing outside his home in Freedom Square in Kagisanong on Wednesday, 25 December, when he was approached by members of a local gang who greeted him with a gang-related gesture. Despite the victim’s response, the suspects allegedly perceived his reaction as a sign of affiliation with a rival gang.

The confrontation quickly turned violent, with the suspects launching a vicious attack and stabbing the teenager multiple times. Kagisanong Police and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, but the victim was declared dead upon their arrival.

The Mangaung District Operational Command Centre immediately launched an investigation into the killing. Using intelligence-led information, police tracked down the suspects to a location in Bophelong, Turflaagte, where they were found hiding.

Both suspects, aged 18 and 19, have been charged with murder and are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.

“This tragic incident demonstrates the senseless violence that gang activities bring to our communities, particularly affecting our young people,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli.

The investigation into the Christmas Day murder continues as police work to gather additional evidence for the case.
