MQANDULI – Two brothers will appear in the Mqanduli Magistrate Court on Monday, 8 September, for murder charges in connection with the death of their elder brother after alleging the brother was raping their 15-year-old niece.
According to police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo, the two male suspects, aged 17 and 21, from the Mambalwini locality were arrested today, 7 September, for severely assaulting their 39-year-old brother on Saturday, 6 September, at about 20:00.
Matyolo revealed the brother’s body was found this morning at about 08:00.
Commenting on the events leading up to the murder, Matyolo said, “It is alleged that the three brothers with their 15-year-old niece were at a local tavern on Saturday, 6 September, and the two brothers alleged that they found their elder brother raping their niece, whereupon they started assaulting him. He fought back but was ultimately overpowered and was kept in a locked rondavel within the homestead overnight with his hands tied with a rope. On Sunday, 7 September, at about 08:00, the elder brother was found dead in the rondavel where he was being held.”
“Police were summoned and they arrested the two male suspects, charged with murder, while a rape case has also been opened following a complaint by the niece. Investigation into the whole matter continues.”
