JEFFREYS BAY – Two men are expected to appear before the Humansdorp Magistrates’ Court today, 11 February, after they were positively linked to the murder and business robbery at a Jeffreys Bay grocery store on 1 February.
As previously reported, two armed gunmen stormed a grocery store on Jacob Zuma Street in Tokyo Sexwale, Jeffreys Bay, at approximately 09:20 on 1 February, and held the security guard at gunpoint.
The manager of the store, Sinethemba Promise Katoo (31), was shot and the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and cell phones.
Eight days after the incident, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said that on the evening of 9 February, acting on intelligence, a task team from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit intercepted a white Toyota Quantum taxi travelling on the N2 between Gqeberha and Makhanda.
He said that the vehicle was successfully pulled over near Nanaga at approximately 21:00.
Nkohli said that the two men, aged 23 and 26, were occupants in the taxi and were positively linked to the robbery at a grocery store in Jeffreys Bay on 1 February.
“One of the suspects was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol. The duo was arrested and charged with murder and business robbery. One of them will face an additional charge of contravention of the Firearms Control Act,” said Nkohli.
The suspects are due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrates’ Court on 11 February.
