EAST LONDON – A pedestrian and a driver have died from two separate accidents that happened within a space of an hour of each other in the BCM last night, October 25.
According to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, in the latest of the two incidents, it is alleged that the VW Tiguan was travelling west on the N2 towards Qonce from the Beacon Bay side. “A pedestrian allegedly appeared in the middle of the inside lane and the said vehicle collided with the pedestrian, and the pedestrian was fatally wounded,” said Binqose.
He then stated that earlier at approximately 22:00, it is alleged that the driver was driving on Mdantsane Access Road towards town from the Mdantsane side. “After passing the Chicken Farm turn-off, the driver decided to make a U-turn, not noticing that there was an oncoming vehicle from the East London side. They collided on the roadway. The driver of the Mahindra was declared dead at the scene.”
“Culpable homicide cases have been opened for further investigations in both incidents,” he added.
