TSHWANE – Police officials have successfully recovered a hijacked lorry carrying medicines worth approximately R2.5 million following a coordinated three-hour operation in the Tshwane on Friday.

The Freightliner truck, transporting codeine medication, was hijacked on Friday morning at around 08:00 in the Wierdabrug area. Police immediately activated the vehicle’s tracking system and circulated details to units across the region and neighbouring stations.

The coordinated tracking effort proved successful, with officers locating the stolen vehicle on Monument Road in Mnandi, within the Olievenhoutbosch area, at approximately 11:00 – just three hours after the initial incident.

Police found one suspect inside the lorry and confirmed that the pharmaceutical cargo remained completely intact. Crime scene management teams were subsequently called to process the scene and collect evidence for the ongoing investigation and potential court proceedings.

District Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine praised the team’s rapid response and highlighted the crucial role of integrated collaboration between the police and various stakeholders in the fight against crime.
