Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, confirmed officers responded to the accident scene at 13:15. Gama said the collision involved a UD Quester truck travelling from Grabouw to Cape Town, which allegedly ran a red traffic light and collided with a Mercedes-Benz truck that was turning onto Broadlands Road from the opposite direction. The 56-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz apparently had right of way as the arrow to turn was green.

The impact left the 42-year-old driver of the UD Quester with injuries to the lower part of his body. He was treated by paramedics on the scene before being transported to a local hospital for further medical attention. The other driver survived the incident unscathed.

Muneera Allie, spokesperson for the Western Cape Department of Mobility, confirmed the accident, stating that three lanes on the N2 were closed to allow authorities and emergency services to attend to the scene. While the accident resulted in a multiple lane closure, Allie could not confirm for how long motorists were delayed on the busy highway route.

The police investigation continues.
