A three-month-old baby boy is fighting for his life in a Cape Town hospital after being shot in the head just before 08:00 this morning in what is alleged to be a gang hit in Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, two unidentified armed men entered premises and proceeded to one of the living rooms.
“One of the men fired a gunshot in the direction of a woman with a baby, leaving the three-month-old boy with serious injuries. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The unidentified suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is believed to be gang-related,” says Swartbooi.
Sergeant Samantha Adonis from the Bishop Lavis police says she was at the hospital and spoke to the doctors treating the child. “His eyes are open, and he is in a stable condition,” says Adonis.
