Three killed in Ngqamakhwe crash after vehicle overturns


NGQAMAKHWE – Three people have died after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned on the R409 near Santini location, Ngqamakhwe, on the way to Butterworth on 24 July.

According to Eastern Cape Department of Transport spokesperson Makhaya Komisa, the Toyota Corolla, which was carrying three male occupants, was travelling from Ngqamakhwe to Butterworth when the accident occurred.

“All three male occupants, including the driver, died at the scene after the vehicle rolled several times,” said Komisa.

He said it is alleged that speeding and reckless driving were the main causes of the crash.

Komisa said a case of culpable homicide has been opened at Ngqamakhwe Police Station for further investigation.

Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

The MEC continues to urge motorists to adhere to the rules of the road.
