The R43 between Worcester and Villiersdorp has reopened to traffic following repairs to infrastructure damaged during recent flooding in the Cape Winelands.
The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure announced that the route, officially designated as TR30/2, reopenend to motorists nearly two weeks ahead of the anticipated completion date after repair work was carried out on sections affected by severe weather.
The road has been reopened to full two-way traffic, restoring a key transport link between Worcester and Villiersdorp. Motorists have been advised to exercise caution when travelling on the route, as ancillary work including final road markings will continue over the coming weeks.
The department thanked residents, businesses and road users for their patience during the repair period, which saw temporary disruptions while the flood damage was addressed.
For the residents of farms between Villiersdorp and Worcester this is very good news. “We often had to take a detour to get to Worcester and it cost us a lot. I want to congratulate the team on what they have achieved in a short time to repair the road,” said a farmer in the area.
